Empowering local communities: Air Liquide Egypt and Schneider Electric launch joint sustainable project in Port Said

As part of their shared commitment to creating a tangible social and environmental impact, Air Liquide Egypt and Schneider Electric announced the launch of their first joint community development project in Al-Radwan village, southern Port Said Governorate.

Driven by a shared ambition to empower and support underserved communities, Air Liquide Egypt, a leader in gases, technologies and services for industry and healthcare, and Schneider Electric, a global leader in the digital transformation of energy management and automation, delivered an integrated model addressing the close interconnection between the Water, Energy, and Food Nexus. It involves constructing solar-powered irrigation pumping and drinking water treatment stations integrated with smart "EcoStruxure" technologies, aiming to indirectly benefit approximately 15,000 people who face challenges accessing safe drinking water in this region.

This project includes constructing two solar-powered irrigation pumping stations with a capacity of 26kW each, replacing around 80 traditional diesel-powered pumps and providing irrigation water to approximately 180 agricultural acres. Additionally, a 16.5kW decentralized solar-powered drinking water treatment plant will supply 15 cubic meters of clean drinking water daily and avoid nearly 49 tons of CO₂ emissions annually.

The partnership focuses on addressing two key challenges faced by local residents: eliminating the high financial burdens and environmental footprint of diesel pumps, and securing clean, safe drinking water to mitigate health risks, ultimately elevating the local quality of life and economic growth.

This initiative highlights how Air Liquide Egypt’s dedication to sustainability and empowering underserved communities creates powerful synergies with Schneider Electric’s advanced digital solutions and Internet of Things (IoT) applications. Supported by Air Liquide’s investment and driven by Schneider Electric’s smart technologies enhance operational efficiency, optimize resource consumption, and enable continuous performance monitoring to ensure long-term operational sustainability. By expanding solar energy solutions and accelerating decarbonization, the project creates lasting community impact while directly aligning with Egypt’s renewable energy strategy and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Prean Chetty, Air Liquide Egypt CEO, stated: “Tackling challenges requires building integrated strategic partnerships that blend technological innovation, social responsibility, and sustainable funding. We are proud to collaborate with Schneider Electric on this flagship project in Al-Radwan village. It allows the Group to merge its vision for sustainable development and energy transition with smart infrastructure solutions, reducing the carbon footprint while easing the economic and health burdens on the residents and farmers of Port Said."

Asmaa El Shiemy, Leader of Sustainability at Schneider Electric added: "At Schneider Electric, we believe in the necessity of joining forces to enhance environmental and community performance. Clean technology is the primary driver of sustainable development, and we are thrilled to enable this project in partnership with Air Liquide Egypt to deliver digitalization and automation solutions that empower vulnerable communities and build resilience against environmental and economic challenges."
